Only Doctor Ben's Turns Toys into Models!

Welcome to the Doctor Ben's Weekly Newsletter!
Lots of questions on weathering and painting using Doctor Ben's Weathering pigments. The number one question was "Why can't I paint using my weathering pigments?" My reply, "Are they Doctor Ben's?" And the response is always, nope. Otjer techniques and tips are in our How-To #3 at the bottom of this newsletter.
We're making great progress on the O Scale and S Scale corroborators tooling. The current plan is to package both2" c 6" which will make the vertical dimension 8 scale feet im O scale and just over 10 feet in S scale. Corrugated material will be available in both silver and tan (weathered). I probably avoided corrugated roofing because the hassles of trying to make alumna material look .realistic. This material s awesome!
This Businesses is for For Sale and we continue to share this information in our Newsletters. We added almost 90 images of the equipment, tooling, material and such that are included in the purchase of this business. DOCTOR BEN'S Weathering Stains
For years Richard E. Bendever has used these versatile non-petroleum Weathering Stains to stain, finish & weather the many craftsman and scratchbuilt models he had been constructing for many, many customers.   So when that once famous—now defunct—Floquil® Flo-Stain product line became super rare becoming extremely hard to find as well as going for rediculous sums of money per bottle on eBay. Richard, now Doctor Ben’s, decided to offer an Aged Driftwood Weathering Stain (made highly desired by Fine Scale Models) as an exact color match to the 1983 Floquil 1980s Driftwood stain. As this amazing Doctor Ben's product became increasingly popular all over the world, additional Weathering Stain colors (including the Flow-Stain colors) were slowly created until there were enough for one Weathering Set; and then another; and then another set. It has been several years now and boy the Doctor Ben's Weathering Stain color selection has grown by leaps and bounds! CLICK HERE for more about the Doctor Ben's Weathering Stain story!

DOCTOR BEN'S How-To Booklet Series

Many moons ago we created this How-To Booklet Series for the hundreds and thousands of folks we would meet at hobby shows, train shows and conventions. I would be doing demonstrations how to use our Doctor Ben's products while at the same time explaining all about the products while being interrupted with a plethora of questions by the customer and then passer-by modelers who came in the middle of the explanation and ask me to start over from the beginning. This interaction would go on hour after how, day after day to the entire multiple day show. The long story short is that I wrote the techniques down and handed them out which eventually evolved into the booklets.
Eventually we had to put a price on the booklets as they evolved and printing costs were soaring. That's when we created the Doctor Ben's Weathering Pigment, Stain and Solution sets which would include the perspective How-To Booklet.. As always, if you have questions, please ask!

How-To #3: "Weathering and Painting using Pigment" Booklet by Richard E. (Ben) Bendever

Posted by Richard E. Bendever on 6/12/2020 to Tips & Techniques

Modeling materials have come a long way since the good ol’ days of modeling with cereal boxes and erector sets. Now-a-days many modeling products are made of white metal, resin, or plaster all representing brick, stone & wood. If all the modeling components were made of the same material, figuring a way to color or stain them would be a snap. Well, they're not and we help explain how to make them look realistic in this How-To booklet.

Tips & Techniques: Layering Doctor Ben's Weathering Stains

One of the most popular Doctor Ben's Weathering Stains is the Rustic Barn Red (#1089). Also, one of the Doctor Ben's Weathering Stains that frightens some customers the most is the Rustic Barn Red. This is because when modelers see the Rustic Barn Red in the jar it looks to be a glowing red-pink color which is one of the last colors a modelers may want to see on their favorite structure or model. Sounds like a conundrum, right? CLICK on the image to read on ...
